WiFi 6 if your phones and laptops are recent or many devices share the network. WiFi 6 (802.11ax) handles crowded networks better with OFDMA and MU-MIMO; the H3C Magic NX30 and BX54 support both. WiFi 5 (802.11ac), like the TP-Link Archer C54, is still fine for a normal home with a few devices. Older WiFi 4 routers such as the TL-WR820N suit light use only.
What does dual-band mean?
The router makes two WiFi networks: 2.4GHz, which reaches further through walls, and 5GHz, which is faster at shorter range. The Archer C54, H3C Magic NX15, NX30 and BX54 are dual-band. The TP-Link TL-WR820N is 2.4GHz only.
How many devices can a router handle?
It depends on the model. H3C lists the Magic NX30 for up to 256 devices. TP-Link lists the Archer C54 as suited to a 3-bedroom house with medium capacity, and the TL-WR820N for small homes and apartments. For a busy office, a WiFi 6 router or Omada access points work better than a basic router.
Do these routers support mesh?
Yes, the H3C Magic NX15, Magic NX30 and BX54 support EasyMesh, so you can link more than one to cover a larger house with one WiFi name. They also support 802.11k/v roaming (NX15 and NX30) and wired or wireless relay modes.
Which router suits an office with two internet lines?
The TP-Link ER7206 Omada Gigabit VPN router. It has one Gigabit WAN, one Gigabit SFP WAN and two ports that can be set as WAN or LAN, with load balancing and failover across lines. It supports IPsec, WireGuard, OpenVPN, L2TP and PPTP VPNs and can be managed from an Omada controller. It has no WiFi, so pair it with Omada access points.
