What refresh rate do I need in a monitor?

For office work, study and films, 75 to 100 Hz is enough; most office screens such as the BenQ GW2490 and Dahua LM22-B201S run at 100 Hz. For fast games, 165 Hz or more makes motion clearly smoother. Our gaming screens run from 180 Hz (MSI MAG 321CQF) up to 300 Hz (MSI MAG 255PXF). Your graphics card must reach those frame rates to use them.

IPS or VA panel: which is better?

IPS gives truer colours and keeps them when you look from the side, so it suits office, design and most gaming. VA gives deeper blacks and higher contrast (3000:1 to 4000:1, against about 1000:1 to 1300:1 for IPS), which suits films and curved screens such as the Samsung CF390 and Dahua LM27-E230C.

Full HD, QHD or 4K: which resolution for my screen size?

Full HD (1920 × 1080) is sharp up to 24 inches and fine at 27 inches for office work. QHD (2560 × 1440) suits 27 and 32 inches, like the BenQ GW2790Q and MSI MAG 274QPF. 4K (3840 × 2160) gives the sharpest text and photos at 27 inches and above, like the MSI PRO MP273U and BenQ EW3290U.

Can I use a monitor with my laptop?

Yes. Most monitors connect with an HDMI cable, which almost every laptop has. A USB-C monitor such as the BenQ GW2486TC, GW2786TC or GW3290QT takes picture and power over one USB-C cable and charges the laptop at the same time, if the laptop's USB-C port supports video (DisplayPort Alt Mode).

Can I put a monitor on a wall mount or monitor arm?

Yes, if it has VESA screw holes on the back. Most office monitors have 75 × 75 or 100 × 100 mm holes, which fit our Fantech monitor arms. Large screens like the Uniview MW3243 and MW3255 use 200 × 200 mm, which fits the Uniview HB-4032-E wall mount for 32 to 55 inches.
