How to choose a thermal printer
Direct thermal or thermal transfer?
Direct thermal prints on heat-sensitive paper or labels, with no ink, toner or ribbon to buy. The print fades with heat and sunlight over months, which is fine for receipts and courier labels.
Thermal transfer melts ink from a ribbon onto the label, so the print lasts for years. Use it for asset tags, shelf labels and stock kept for long. The iDPRT iT4S, iF4, iT4X and iE2X-H and the Deli ES352 do both.
Receipt paper: 58 mm or 80 mm?
80 mm is the usual width for counter billing in shops and restaurants, with room for item names, VAT lines and a QR code. 58 mm rolls go in small handheld devices. All the desktop receipt printers below take 80 mm rolls; the HCCTG R330 Plus Android terminal has a 58 mm printer built in.
Label width: 2, 3 or 4 inch?
2-inch printers suit price tags, small barcodes and pharmacy labels. 3-inch printers handle mid-size labels and are common in portable models. 4-inch printers print the 100 × 150 mm courier label and every smaller size, so online sellers and warehouses usually pick one.
Resolution (DPI) and speed
203 DPI is enough for receipts, courier labels and normal barcodes. Pick 300 DPI (the iDPRT iF4, the Deli E780C or the CP-D80 card printer) for small text, tiny barcodes and photos on ID cards. Speed is given in mm/s or ips (inches per second; 1 ips is 25.4 mm/s). 6 to 8 ips matters only when you print hundreds of labels a day.
Connections: USB, LAN, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi
USB connects one printer to one billing computer.
LAN (Ethernet) lets several computers share the printer, for example a cash counter and a kitchen printer on the same network.
Serial (RS232) is for older POS systems and scales.
Bluetooth prints from a phone or tablet. The Deli E750W is sold as a wireless printer and connects by Bluetooth and USB. None of the thermal printers we stock lists Wi-Fi in its specifications.
Receipt printer price in Nepal (POS printers)
Model | Paper | Speed | Connects by | Extras | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
80 mm | 180 mm/s | LAN | Automatic paper cutter | Rs. 9,000 | |
80 mm | 200 mm/s | USB, Ethernet | Cash drawer port | Rs. 9,500 | |
3 inch (72 mm print width) | 300 mm/s | USB, LAN, serial | Metal cutter, cash drawer port | Rs. 14,400 | |
80 mm, receipts and labels | 4 ips (101.6 mm/s) | USB, serial | ESC/POS and TSPL, cash drawer | Rs. 20,000 | |
58 mm, built in | - | 4G, NFC, GPS | Android 14 POS terminal, 5.5-inch touch screen | Rs. 31,000 |
For one billing counter, the Deli 801PN receipt printer (automatic cutter) or the HPRT TP80N-M POS printer (USB and Ethernet, cash drawer port) cover most shops. For a busy supermarket counter, the Deli ES301 prints at 300 mm/s with a metal cutter. The HPRT LPQ80 prints both receipts and labels, handy when one counter does billing and price tags.

The Deli ES331 A4 thermal printer prints documents and labels from a phone without ink, on Deli XH25 or XH27 A4 thermal paper. Like all direct thermal print, the page fades over time, so it is not for papers you must keep for years. For delivery riders and field sales, the iDPRT E3 Plus mobile label printer and the HPRT HM-T300 Pro portable printer print labels on the move.
ID card printer price in Nepal
The iDPRT CP-D80 card printer costs Rs. 1,20,000. It prints colour photos, names, logos and barcodes straight onto PVC cards, so you can make ID cards on the day instead of ordering them from a print shop.

Single-sided or dual-sided?
Single-sided printing covers most staff and student cards: photo, name, ID number and logo on the front. Choose the dual-sided module when the back needs rules, an address, an emergency contact or a barcode. Dual-sided printing runs at up to 100 cards an hour.
Encoders: magnetic stripe and smart cards
An encoder writes data onto the card as it prints, so the same card opens doors, records attendance or pays in a canteen. The CP-D80 takes optional magnetic stripe, contact and 13.56 MHz contactless smart card encoders. Tell us which cards your door or attendance system reads when you order. For the readers themselves, see our access control installation service.
Ribbons and blank cards
A YMCKO ribbon prints yellow, magenta, cyan, black and a clear overlay that protects the card; a KO ribbon prints black only, with the overlay, for plain text cards. Ribbons and blank PVC cards are not listed in the shop yet; ask us for them when you order the printer.
Who uses an ID card printer?
Schools and colleges: student and staff ID cards and library cards, printed at the start of each session.
Offices and banks: staff ID and access cards, reprinted the same day when someone joins or loses a card.
Events and conferences: delegate and staff badges for seminars and expos in Kathmandu and other cities.
Hospitals, clubs and gyms: patient, member and visitor cards.
