2-inch, 3-inch or 4-inch?
2 inch (iF2, iE2X-H): small barcode, price and product labels, and wristband or sample labels in clinics.
3 inch (LPQ80, HM-T300 Pro): mid-size labels; the LPQ80 also prints receipts and the HM-T300 Pro runs on battery for printing on the move.
4 inch (iD880, E780C, iD4S, iT4S, iF4, iT4X, iD4P): the 100 × 150 mm courier and shipping label, plus every smaller size. The usual choice for online sellers and warehouses.
Direct thermal or thermal transfer (ribbon)?
Direct thermal prints on heat-sensitive labels with nothing else to buy. The print fades in sunlight and heat over months, which is fine for courier labels and receipts.
Thermal transfer melts ink from a ribbon onto the label, so the print lasts for years. Use it for asset tags, warehouse shelf labels and products kept in stock for long. The iT4S, iF4, iT4X and iE2X-H do both.
For sharp small text and tiny barcodes, pick 300 DPI (the iF4, or the Deli E780C at 300 DPI). 203 DPI suits courier labels and normal barcodes.

Frequently asked questions
Which label printer is best for courier and shipping labels?
A 4-inch printer with 100 × 150 mm labels. The iDPRT iD880 (Rs. 16,000) is the lowest-priced 4-inch model with Ethernet; for high volumes, the 8 ips iD4P prints fastest.
Does a thermal label printer need ink?
No. Direct thermal printers need only thermal labels. Thermal transfer printing also needs a ribbon.
Will it work with my billing or courier software?
iDPRT printers understand ZPL-II, TSPL and other common label printer languages, and the HPRT LPQ80 also takes ESC/POS receipt commands, so most labelling, billing and courier software can print to them. Check the printer's page for the exact list.
