144 to 180 Hz is a big step up from 60 Hz and enough for most players. 240 Hz and above (MSI MAG 255PXF, MAG 276CXF, QD-OLED screens) helps in fast competitive shooters, but only if your PC runs the game at that many frames per second.

What is a QD-OLED gaming monitor?

A QD-OLED screen lights each pixel on its own, so blacks are fully black and the response time is about 0.03 ms. The MSI MAG 273QP, MPG 341CQPX, MPG 491CQPX and Dahua LM27-GO34A are QD-OLED at 240 Hz with DisplayHDR True Black 400 or HDR400. They suit dark rooms, games and films.

Full HD or QHD for gaming?

Full HD (1920 × 1080) on a 24 or 25-inch screen gets the highest frame rates from a mid-range graphics card. QHD (2560 × 1440) on 27 inches or more looks sharper but needs a stronger card for 165 Hz and above. The MSI MAG 275UPD gives both: 4K at 144 Hz or Full HD at 288 Hz.

Which cable do I need for a high refresh rate?

Use DisplayPort or HDMI 2.1 for the full refresh rate. Older HDMI ports can limit the refresh rate at QHD and 4K. Check the ports on both the monitor and your graphics card: most of our gaming monitors have DisplayPort 1.4a, and the Dahua LM27-E341AY and MSI MAG 275UPD also have HDMI 2.1.

Curved or flat gaming monitor?

A curve helps most on wide and large screens, where it keeps the edges at the same distance from your eyes, like the 34-inch MSI MPG 341CQPX and 49-inch MPG 491CQPX. On 24 and 27 inches it is a matter of taste: the MSI MAG 276CXF and Dahua LM27-E230C are curved, most others are flat.
